and other FAQs

WHAT IS YOGA?

Simply put, yoga is the practice of centering your consciousness to still the restlessness of the mind and tension in the body to live a more balanced life.

WHAT YOGA METHOD DO YOU TEACH?

I offer personalized instruction of Hatha yoga with an emphasis on proper alignment. Vinyasa flow is my favorite style! I also specialize in yoga for bone health.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF YOGA?

Yoga is scientifically proven to be extremely beneficial to one’s overall mental and physical health. It’s a great way to reduce stress, speed up the healing process, and to impact the overall wellness of the mind, body, and spirit. Practicing yoga has helped countless people improve their flexibility, strength, and balance. Yoga is also connected to increased blood flow, lower blood pressure, and improved sleep, along with a multitude of other benefits.

WHO SHOULD PRACTICE YOGA?

I believe that everyone can benefit from practicing yoga. Specifically, anyone who wants to reduce stress, lose weight, or improve their range of motion.

WHAT WOULD I NEED TO PRACTICE YOGA?

An open mind, a yoga mat or towel, plenty of water, and comfortable clothes.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU PRACTICE YOGA?

Practicing yoga at any frequency can be rewarding. You can practice yoga daily, in 5-10 minutes, by breathing deeply and moving your spine in all 6 directions. Or, you can attend 90-minute yoga sessions 2-3 times a week. Start out slowly, then gradually increase over time.

AT WHAT AGE SHOULD YOU BEGIN TO PRACTICE?

Children as young as 8 and adults 80 and over have practiced yoga. My only suggestion is that you consult your doctor before you begin.

WHY THE CHANTING?

Chanting is simply creating vibrations in the body, which helps balance energy in the central nervous system. Many yoga classes begin or end with OM — our 'AUM'—which is the sanskrit word for “all” or “omnipresence.”
